In an ongoing effort to meet the needs of our patients, the AAEDA practice is continually growing.


Jeffrey A. Sanfield, M.D., F.A.C.P., C. D. E.
Dr. Jeffrey Sanfield holds many titles; most currently being Department Chair of Internal Medicine at St Joseph Mercy Hospital, a title he has held for more than seven years.

Having received his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, Dr Sanfield graduated medical school in 1981 from Wayne State University, and was an Endocrinology Fellow at the University of Michigan Hospital from 1984 to 1986. Dr. Sanfield is board certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabolism, and is also board certified as a Diabetes Educator. Having received many honors and awards over the years, Dr. Sanfield was recently named "Top Doc" in the Detroit area, and voted as a "Top Doctor in America" by Consumer Checkbook ~ both of which speak to his passion for his patients. Dr. Sanfield has participated in many clinical trials, and his major focus is on thyroid disorders, insulin pump therapy, adrenal disorders including adrenal masses, and pituitary tumors.

Dr. Sanfield is a native Michigan resident originally from Mt, Clemens, and lives with his family in Ann Arbor.


Michael Kleerekoper, M.D.
Michael Kleerekoper, M.D. Dr. Michael Kleerekoper joined Ann Arbor Endocrinology and Diabetes in April of 2006. Dr. Kleerekoper is a national and international expert in the field of bone and mineral metabolism. Dr. Kleerekoper received his first NIH grant in 1980 and in conjunction with the Mayo Clinic conducted the first placebo-controlled perspective double-blind clinical trial of any osteoporosis therapy in the United States. In 1985 Dr. Kleerekoper was the first to publish data documenting the importance of bone micro architecture in osteoporosis. In 1988 he was the first to examine a bone biopsy specimen in 3-D using a high resolution micro CT scan that had been developed at Ford Motor Company.

Dr. Kleerekoper has authored or co-authored over 150 original articles, reviews, and editorials in peer review journals and has authored or edited six books, as well as being a co-editor on each of the six editions of the Primer on Calcium and Bone Disease published by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. He serves on the editorial boards of five journals and was the founding editor of at least two to three other journals and is currently on the editorial board of three other major other international journals. He reviews one or two journal articles each week including the major internal medicine journals as well as diverse fields such as neurology, dentistry, engineering, gynecology, and clinical chemistry.

Dr. Kleerekoper is a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Osteoporosis Foundation, the Board of Directors of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and a Trustee of the American College of Endocrinology.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Biochemists and a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. At the annual convocation of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists in 2006, Dr. Kleerekoper became a Master of the American College of Endocrinology.

Dr. Kleerekoper has been on staff previously at Henry Ford Hospital from 1976 to 1993 before leaving to join Wayne State University where he currently maintains a faculty appointment. While Dr. Kleerekoper is nationally and internationally known for his bone and mineral metabolism study and research, he remains a consultant in all aspects of Endocrinology and Metabolism including diabetes, growth and development, and disorders of male and female hormone dysfunction including hypogonadal males (who may lack adequate testosterone production) or females with menstrual related disturbances and/or menopause.


Anuradha L. Puttagunta, MD, F.A.C.P.
Dr. Puttagunta did her training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. During her training in Canada she also spent an additional two years in the Department of Physiology at the University of Alberta. She received the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Studentship Award in 1990. She is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Diabetes Association, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the Endocrine Society. She is also a Fellow in the American College of Clinical Endocrinology. For the last seven years she has been practicing in Midland, Michigan where she has taken care of patients of all ages who have endocrinologic problems. The center for which she and her associate practiced is considered one of the largest referring centers for Endocrinology in mid Michigan. It is well recognized for its excellence in the care of patients with diabetes and endocrinologic disorders.

Dr. Puttagunta is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. Her special clinical interests include: Adrenal and pituitary disorders, growth, development and endocrinologic conditions involving adolescents, and patients with diabetes including pump patients. She has specific training in thyroid ultrasound imaging, so she can provide ultrasound imaging and interpretation in patients with thyroid disorders.

Dr. Puttagunta recently moved from the Midland area with her husband and three children. She will begin practicing at Ann Arbor Endocrinology and Diabetes Associates in September of 2006.


Anita Lopes Repp, M.D.
Dr. Repp received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Michigan State University and her Medical Degree from the University of Michigan. She completed her internal medicine training at the University of Virginia and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Wayne State University in Detroit. Dr. Repp enjoys teaching and has assisted in courses at both the University of Michigan and Wayne State University medical schools. In addition, she has previously worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as a hospitalist.

Dr. Repp is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. She is certified as a Clinical Densitometrist and is board eligible in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Research projects during residency and fellowship have fostered her clinical interests in thyroid disease, gestational diabetes, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Dr. Repp lives in Canton, Michigan. She joins Ann Arbor Endocrinology & Diabetes Associates in February of 2008.


Deborah F. Brigell, M.D., F.A.C.E.
Dr. Brigell received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1979 and was a practicing social worker before deciding to become a physician. She graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1986. Dr. Brigell completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Chicago. She practiced endocrinology in the Chicago area for nearly a decade before relocating to Ann Arbor and joining AAEDA in 2000.

Dr. Brigell is board certified in board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism. Her special clinical interests include polycystic ovary syndrome, thyroid disorders, and the use of ultrasound and biopsy to evaluate thyroid nodules. Dr. Brigell is also experienced in the management of calcium and parathyroid disorders, diabetes, pituitary and adrenal disorders and osteoporosis.
